Hans Strand is the winner in the Environmental Issues category of 2009 Windland Smith Rice Awards. His standing polar bear from Svalbard was chosen as winner from tens of thousands of entries. He also had two other images which received highly honored status in the competition.

Hans Strand was invited by Hasselblad to hold a slide show at Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on September 26th. This in accordance with the celebration of the 40 year anniversary of the first man and camera on the moon. Dr. Buzz Aldrin, astronaut and photographer on the successful Apollo 11 mission, was also present at the event.

Hans Strand is the winner in the landscape category in Digital Camera Photographer of the Year 2008. His aerial photograph of River Kolgríma was selected as the winning image. The competition had more than 120 000 entries. For more information:
